Jump Cut Kids Film Festival is an independent celebration of young filmmakers, open to students from kindergarten through high school. Founded by educator and filmmaker Brandon Berman and his 10-year-old daughter Ava, the festival gives kids a rare chance to share their stories on the big screen.
We welcome short films (3 minutes or less) in any genre—animation, documentary, narrative, experimental—anything that reflects the creativity and vision of young storytellers. Selected films will screen at the Broomfield Public Auditorium, complete with a red carpet experience, filmmaker Q&As, awards, and opportunities for kids to meet and connect with other creative minds.
In addition to the festival, Jump Cut offers hands-on filmmaking classes and summer camps to teach students the fundamentals of filmmaking, from idea to final edit. Many of these projects go on to be featured in the festival, making Jump Cut both a showcase and a launchpad for youth creativity.
Our mission is to empower kids to imagine boldly, create fearlessly, and take pride in their unique voices. Whether you’re a first-time filmmaker or a seasoned young creator, Jump Cut is your chance to shine.
